Awards & Recognitions

Our commitment to excellence and community has not gone unnoticed. The Gunnison Valley Health system has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout the years.

Some of the awards and recognitions we have achieved include:

  • Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in AmericaTop 100 Critical Access Hospital Badge from Vantage Health Analytics
    GVH has been named one of the iVantage Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) in the United States eight times, scoring in the top 100 of Critical Access Hospitals on the iVantage Hospital Strength INDEX™. The INDEX is the industry's most comprehensive rating of acute care hospitals and the only one to include the country's nearly 1,300 Critical Access facilities, measuring them across multiple performance metrics.
  • Gunnison Valley Health Mountain Clinic - 2018 Excellence in Patient Care
    The Mountain Clinic at Mt. Crested Butte was recognized for Excellence in Patient Care Award by Studer Group, a global firm who identifies the best in healthcare organizations in the USA, Canada and Australia.
  • One of the Top 25 Rural Hospitals Nationwide
    According to the iVantage INDEX, GVH ranks in the top 1.2% of over 2100 rural hospitals over a variety of measures including quality, patient perspective, charge, and financial stability. That means that we are performing in the top 25 of all rural hospitals in the country.
  • HEALTHSTRONG Hospital by iVantage Health Analytics
    GVH was named one of the nation's 2015 HEALTHSTRONG Hospitals by iVantage Health Analytics, which highlights top performing hospitals as determined through the Hospital Strength Index™-a broad performance scorecard focused on: Risk, Value, and Performance. We received a HEALTHSTRONG composite of 94.5 out of 100, in a national group of 4,300 hospitals nationwide.
  • Avatar Solutions "Best Overall Performer" for Patient SatisfactionAvatar Patient Experience Award Seal
    In 2016 GVH performed in the top 10-12% of hospitals nationwide across patient types - Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Surgery.
  • Avatar Solutions "Most Improved Employee Engagement 2014 Award"
    GVH received Avatar Solutions' award for second most improved Engagement scores among their clients in 2014! Without the dedication and commitment of GVH staff, this award would not have been possible. We would like to thank each staff member for their participation in the survey process and for the continued support of GVH. Our employees are the backbone of the organization, and we are thrilled to know that so many people in the Valley find this organization a great place to work!
  • Accreditation from The Joint CommissionThe Joint Commission National Quality Approval Seal
    GVH has achieved the Gold Seal of Approval® for a CAH with three years of accreditation from The Joint Commission. To achieve accreditation, GVH underwent an unannounced on-site review by a select team of Joint Commission professionals. These standards are considered the most thorough in the industry and healthcare organizations are accredited on a voluntary basis. GVH chose to be evaluated because we are committed to providing the Valley with excellent healthcare. The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards setting and accrediting body in health care and GVH is proud to announce that we have been awarded certification.
  • VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence
    This award evaluates all Colorado hospitals on their CMS Core measure performance, which is a mix of clinical quality and patient satisfaction. These are the measures that will be used by the federal government to pay hospitals for performance under health reform.
  • Top Ranked Emergency Medical Services
    Our Gunnison Valley hospital has had Top Ranked EMS Services-as judged by the Colorado EMS of the Year Award-twice in the last seven years.
  • Top 5% Surveyed Nursing Home
    Our Senior Care Center is ranked in the Top 5% in Colorado as judged by Resident & Family Survey Results. In addition, our Senior Care Center and Assisted Living Facility both passed the Colorado State Inspection with flying colors!
  • Top Level Home Health Program
    A recent surprise Home Health Survey was conducted by the Colorado Department of Public Health in November of 2016. The survey found no major deficiencies and re-enforced Home Health's performance as a top level program.
  • CAP Certification
    Our Laboratory has received certification from the College of American Pathologists, a rigorous survey with over 1,000 points of inspection, for the past 22 years.
  • IBCLC Care Award
    Gunnison Valley Health is a 2014 International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Care Award recipient. GVH won this award due to its programs that promote and support breastfeeding. GVH also has a dedicated lactation consultant.
