What to Expect with Occupational Therapy

What to Expect with Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists work with people of all ages who need specialized assistance to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives due to physical, development, social or emotional problems. When attending or seeing an occupational therapist you can expect a few common practices. The therapist will generally provide you with an individual evaluation to determine what you personally want to achieve from this type of therapy. They can also provide an intervention to help you achieve certain daily activities that were unachievable before. This type of therapy focuses on any physical, cognitive, or sensory inabilities. At the end of the sessions there is always an outcome evaluation. This evaluation ensures that all of the beginning goals have been met, and also discusses if there needs to be any changes to the therapy to better achieve the desired outcomes. If you benefit from seeing an occupational therapist contact Gunnison Valley Health’s Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department at (970) 641-1456.
