Brainstrong Support Group
Brainstrong is a volunteer-based organization committed to providing education
and resources for individuals with brain injury in the Gunnison Valley.
This group addresses the needs of the community to support, educate, and
advocate for those who have experienced a brain injury or are a family
member or caregiver of an individual with a brain injury.
Brainstrong grew out of a collaboration between Gunnison Valley Health
employee Michael Chiappini, Catherine Fisher, former patient, and GVH
therapists Kristin Grimes and Jen Moore. When Chiappini and Fisher suffered
their brain injuries (specifically cerebrovascular accidents), they recognized
the need for additional support during recovery. They began a monthly
support group that has grown to include public education and an annual
conference. Brainstrong is a home grown service for an active and athletic
community whose passion for adventure comes with the risk of brain injury.
Brainstrong meets regularly and invites various speakers to share their
expertise, guidance, and treatment strategies.
Upcoming Brainstrong Events:
Brainstrong will be present at the upcoming Health Fairs in Crested Butte
and Gunnison. Stop by and say hello! The Gunnison health fair will be
Saturday, April 29 from 6:30-11 a.m. at the Fred Field Building.
