Resources Available Through Public Health

Low-cost Immunizations:

Most childhood immunizations available for ages 6 weeks to 18 years old. Certain adult immunizations only: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, (Tdap) and Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing available year round. Both meningitis vaccine (available for anyone over 18 years old) and HPV vaccine (available for young adults ages 19-26) as supplies last. Cost: $14 donation per injection. During flu season – adult and child influenza immunizations, prices may vary. Call Public Health at 641-0209 for an appointment in Gunnison or Crested Butte.

WIC (Women, Infants and Children):

WIC is a nutrition program that provides nutrition and health education, healthy food and other services free of charge to Colorado families who qualify. Call Public Health at 641-0209 for an appointment in Gunnison or Crested Butte.

Baby and Me Tobacco Free:

A program to help pregnant woman stop smoking. If you remain tobacco free (verified by blowing into a carbon monoxide detector) every month for up to one year, you will get a $25.00 coupon from Wal-Mart for diapers.

Nurse Family Partnership:

A program for first time moms. A specially trained nurse will make home visits throughout pregnancy, until baby is 2 years old. Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Cost: Free to eligible women. Call Public Health at 641-0209.

Family Planning Services:

For the women and men of Gunnison and Hinsdale counties, including annual exams, pelvic exams, pap smears, breast exams, birth control options, STD infection checks and treatment, emergency contraception, and pregnancy testing. Cost for services based on an income dependent sliding fee scale. Call Public Health at 641-0209.

Women’s Wellness Connection:

Free annual exams (including breast exam) and mammograms to those women between 40 and 64 years of age who qualify, based on income and insurance status. Call Public Health at 641-0209.

Smart Woman:

A new exciting service for all Women’s Wellness Connection (WWC) women! We now offer free cholesterol and glucose tests as part of your exam. All women who qualify for WWC can get 2 free screening tests per year. Some women will qualify for a free appointment with a registered dietician and free Aqua Fit classes at the Recreation Center in Gunnison. Ask about SMART WOMAN when you schedule your yearly exam. If you already had your exam this year, give us a call to schedule your free cholesterol and glucose test today.

Low-cost Cholesterol and Glucose Testing:

Know your numbers! Now! Public Health offers appointments to find out your risk of cardiovascular disease for $20. The 30 minute appointment with a trained Health Educator includes a finger-prick blood test of Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides and Glucose, with test results in 5 minutes. Blood pressure, Body Mass Index, and waist measurement are also offered. Clinics are offered in Gunnison, Crested Butte, and at community and worksites as well. Senior Resource Office:

For those aged 60 years or more and their families: help at home: personal care and/or homemaker services. Assistance making or getting to appointments. Help finding the services to meet your needs. Information on aging topics, local social opportunities, housing, transportation, health care, financial resources, etc. Call 641-7984 or 642-4664.

Multicultural Resource Office:

Promotes education, communication, and networking to aid the integration of families into the community. Provides health navigation, interpreters, translation services and culturally appropriate materials and services. Call 641-7999.

Tobacco Education and Prevention Program:

Working with the community to prevent tobacco use, to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, and to promote cessation. Free QuitKits and other resources available. Call Public Health at 641-0209.
