Two new leaders will guide the Gunnison Valley Health Foundation. Ronda Connaway has been elected to chairman of the foundation’s board of directors and will serve with 11 other volunteer board members.
Connaway succeeds Chuck Cliggett, who served as chairman for two years and will continue his role with the foundation as a member of the board of directors. “It has been a great experience to lead the Health Foundation these past couple years,” says Cliggett. “We’ve made steady progress and I’m happy to turn the reins over to Ronda, who will continue to build momentum.”
Connaway will be working with Lauren Holbrook, the new executive director of the Gunnison Valley Health Foundation, to oversee the foundation’s activities as it seeks to develop financial resources to improve the quality and breadth of healthcare in Gunnison County.
Since her retirement in 1994, Connaway has become increasingly involved as a volunteer for a number of community organizations in Gunnison County. She has served as a founding member and board president of Gunnison Valley’s Habitat for Humanity, a founding member of the Gunnison Congregational Church, and a founding member of the Gunnison Valley Health Foundation and represents the foundation on the health system’s board of trustees.
The foundation’s new executive director is a Gunnison County native. Lauren Holbrook grew up in Crested Butte and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she majored in business administration with an emphasis in marketing. After graduating, Lauren relocated to Gunnison County in 2008 and joined the community relations and foundation team at Gunnison Valley Health, where she held several positions including community relations manager. Holbrook has worked and volunteered for several organizations and non-profits in the valley, including the Adaptive Sports Center, the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association, and the education committee for the Crested Butte stage of the USA Pro-Cycling Challenge in 2011.
Other new additions to the GVH Foundation’s board of directors include Cathy Steinberger and John Rasure. Steinberger comes to the foundation with a strong real estate background and has been an active part of Gunnison County for more than 20 years. Rasure has recently relocated to the Gunnison Valley from Albuquerque, N.M., where he served as president, CEO and vice chairman of the board of the Mind Research Network, a non-profit clinical neuroscience research organization. These two new members will join existing board members Nichole Baker, Nancy Bentson Essex, Marla Covey,David Freshour, Virginia Jones, Randy Phelps, John Tarr, M.D., and Lucy Zavala.
