Healthy for Good
Happy and healthy hearts lead to happy and healthy lives. In the U.S.,
the most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease (CAD),
which can lead to a heart attack. You can greatly reduce your risk for
CAD through lifestyle changes that will lead to being Healthy for Good.
There are three key risks to your heart health that you have control over:
stress, eating/weight, and smoking.
To address stress in your life, try using positive self talk and daily
relaxation. Practice turning your negative thoughts into positive ones.
For relaxation, try yoga, tai chi, and meditation.
For eating/weight, make sure you are eating a healthy variety of foods.
A great rule of thumb is to “eat a rainbow.” If your plate
is looking too beige, throw in some color with veggies and fruit. It’s
also important to move more. Finding forms of exercise you like and will
stick with can help you avoid unhealthy weight gain.
For smokers, quitters win! Your lungs can begin to heal themselves the
moment you quit smoking. Healthier lungs mean healthier bodies.
