Community members in Gunnison needing care urgently are set to benefit
with Gunnison Valley Health’s new urgent care starting August 10th.
Gunnison Valley Health’s CEO Rob Santilli said this new service will
fill an important need in our community to have access to care seven days
a week for treating minor injuries and illnesses, especially after hours.
“Over the years, we have increased access to primary care providers
and enhanced our emergency care delivery,” Santilli said. “Through
our community health needs assessment, urgent care was identified as a
need in Gunnison and the missing link in our care delivery model.”
“Our new walk-in urgent care is available until 8pm seven days a
week to treat minor injuries and illnesses without the need to schedule
an appointment or the expense of visiting the emergency room,” he
said. “We are delighted to deliver this new service and provide
our community with a choice when it comes to the care they need,” he said.
Santilli confirmed the medical direction will be overseen by emergency
physician, Dr. Doug Yeakel, and the operations of the practice by certified
family and acute care nurse practitioner, Mary Sawyer.
“Urgent care is not to be confused with emergency care,” Sawyer
said. “We are here to treat patients who have minor injuries and
illnesses such as the flu, sore throat, simple fractures or in need of
stitches,” she said. “If patients have an emergency such as
abdominal pain, chest pain, shortness of breath or severe injuries they
should call 911 or go straight to the emergency department,” she said.
Gunnison Valley Health’s Urgent Care will be located next to the
Hospital in Gunnison Valley Health’s Family Medicine Clinic at 707
North Iowa Street. It will be open seven days a week from 10am to 8pm
Monday to Friday and 12pm to 8pm Saturday and Sunday, 365 days a year
with some reduced hours on certain holidays.
As a pre-opening launch of Gunnison Valley Health’s new urgent care
service in Gunnison, a dedicated day has been allocated for $35 cash pay
sports physicals on Saturday August 8th from 12-5pm. From August 10th when the new urgent care officially opens, students will continue to have
access to the sports physicals discounted rate until August 31st.
“With a licensed and seasonal urgent care at our Mountain Clinic
located in Mt. Crested Butte and our new urgent care in Gunnison, we now
have both ends of the Valley covered when it comes to delivering the best
care to our community, and it’s linked to the strength of the entire
healthcare system,” Santilli said.
