What is Athletic Training
Athletic Trainers are licensed health care professionals that encompass
everything relating to athletic medicine. We provide everything from immediate
onsite medical coverage to post-op. rehabilitation and return to activity.

Why Use Our Service
Clients or patients should utilize an Athletic Training because of their
high level and wide variety of health care education relating to athletics.
Athletic Trainers are ready accessible to a variety of different athletes
from different populations. We also have the knowledge set and capabilities
to assist with a wide variety of injuries and injury prevention. We are
trained as first responders as well as clinical personnel, making our
ability to be utilized in many different situations very high.

Alexandra Powell
As an employee of Gunnison Valley Health, Alexandra Powell will be beginning
her third year working with Mountaineer Athletics after starting in 2018.
Her primary duties entail medical coverage and care for the NCAA cross
country, track & field, swimming, and volleyball teams along with
all of the Mountaineer mountain sport club teams.
Powell graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato in May of 2018
with her Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology. Prior to earning her
Masters, she became a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, along with fulfilling
a double major in Exercise Science at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Powell completed her undergraduate education in 2016.
While pursuing her Masters, Powell served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic
Trainer. Her duties included coverage, rehabilitation, and injury prevention
for the Mavericks nationally ranked football and 2017 NCAA DII Champion
softball team.
As a student, Powell completed internships with the National Football
League’s Minnesota Vikings in athletic training and also with the
University of Minnesota in strength and conditioning.
Currently, Powell enjoys staying active by exploring her new home in Colorado.
She enjoys hiking, mountain biking, skiing, rafting and on a daily basis
working out in the gym. She loves to chat about achieving and maintaining
a healthy lifestyle and believes that physical activity and exercise is
truly the best medicine for all ailments.
Alexandra currently resides in Gunnison, CO with her husband, Slater Powell.
