Robert C. Schutt, Jr.

Robert C. Schutt, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Schutt is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy and served as a combat fighter pilot during the Vietnam conflict. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. During Gulf War One, he served in Iraq, caring for injured U.S. and Iraqi military personnel. Dr. Schutt is a graduate of Texas Tech University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Colorado and practiced medicine for twenty-one years in Colorado Springs. In addition, Dr. Schutt served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at the Texas Tech University Medical School. In this capacity, he managed the budget, personnel, oversaw research, clinical practice, education of resident physicians and medical students as well as a level 1 Trauma Center. He currently practices part time as a physician and surgeon at Alpine Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Gunnison County and at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dr. Schutt built a home in the Gunnison Valley in 1985 and lives here full time. He and his wife, Suzanne, have been married 47 years. They have 3 children and seven grandchildren. Family is a very important part of his life. Dr. and Mrs. Schutt are members of the Union Congregational Church in Crested Butte. Currently he is a member of the Crested Butte Rotary and the Board of Directors for the Crested Butte Music Festival. As a trustee for Gunnison Valley Health, one of his priorities is advocating for accessibility and affordability of quality health care for all citizens in the county.
