Gunnison Valley Health Announces 2025–2027 Strategic Plan to Strengthen Rural Healthcare

Gunnison Valley Health (GVH) has announced the launch of its 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, a comprehensive roadmap designed to secure the future of healthcare in the Gunnison Valley amid a rapidly changing national landscape.

Rural healthcare systems across the United States are facing unprecedented financial pressures, workforce shortages and shifts from volume-based to value-based payment models. GVH’s new plan responds to these challenges by outlining a clear strategy to protect local healthcare services, invest in innovation and ensure long-term sustainability.

“At GVH, we know that the future of rural healthcare depends on adaptability, innovation and a relentless focus on community needs,” said Jason Amrich, CEO of Gunnison Valley Health. “Our strategic plan is not just a vision for the next three years — it is a commitment to ensuring that everyone in the Gunnison Valley can continue to count on high-quality, accessible care close to home.”

The 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan centers around five key themes:

  • Organizational Excellence: Strengthening quality, safety, patient-centered care and financial health across GVH
  • Medical Staff Synergy: Supporting and aligning providers to enhance patient care and workforce engagement
  • Clinical Services Collaboration: Expanding access to specialists, technology and facilities to meet future demand
  • Strengthening Community Health: Focusing on population health, preventive care and health equity
  • Transitioning Payment Models: Moving from volume-based to value-based care to better serve patients and ensure financial viability

The plan also outlines major initiatives, including the full implementation of Epic as GVH’s electronic health record, expansion of telehealth services, enhanced recruitment and retention efforts and strategic collaborations to broaden access to specialty care.

“Our strategic plan reflects the Board’s deep commitment to sustaining a healthy, vibrant community,” said Dr. Mark Kaufman, chair of the GVH Board of Trustees. “We are excited to move forward with a thoughtful, proactive approach that honors GVH’s mission while positioning us to meet the evolving needs of the people we serve.”

By maintaining flexibility to respond to market shifts while remaining grounded in its mission, vision and values, GVH aims to promote care team well-being, deliver an exceptional patient experience, improve community health outcomes and ensure financial stewardship for the long term.
