Ladies Spa Night: A Celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness, Women’s Wellness, and Community.

In October, Gunnison Valley Health, in partnership with Gunnison Tough, welcomed women from across the valley for Ladies Spa Night. This annual celebration is dedicated to breast cancer awareness and prevention. The evening combined relaxation with education, offering a meaningful space for women to care for themselves, connect with others and learn more about the resources available in our community.

Hosted in the Hospital’s North Lobby, the event featured a blend of health education, hands-on wellness experiences, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Guests enjoyed door prizes, pink mocktails, appetizers from 5B’s BBQ, a complimentary spa kit, along with rejuvenating services from five local providers offering massage, acupuncture, skin care, and ortho-bionomy. Creating a spa-like environment in the hospital that supports rest, community, and self-care.

A cornerstone of this event is the focus on breast cancer awareness and early detection. Attendees had access to a limited number of on-site mammograms, allowing women to receive essential screening during the event. GVH also offered a brief presentation featuring three of its medical experts:

  • Dr. David Graff, Radiologist, sharing insights on breast imaging and early detection
  • Dr. Brooke Bredbeck, General Surgeon, discussing women’s wellness and the development of GVH’s breast surgery program
  • Dr. Nicholas Poulos, Dermatologist, highlighting the importance of skin health and routine checks

Their presentations emphasized the power of early diagnosis, proactive care, and accessible screening. Beyond education, the evening highlighted the supportive culture that defines Gunnison Valley Health. Staff, providers and local wellness practitioners created an environment where women could ask questions, receive guidance and feel encouraged to take ownership of their health journeys. From preventive screenings to specialty care and local partnerships, GVH works to ensure women have access to the resources they need close to home.

“Ladies Spa Night reflects our commitment to caring for the women of the Gunnison Valley at every age, and every stage of life,” said Erica Rasmussen, Director of Marketing and Communications at Gunnison Valley Health. “It’s a night to relax, reconnect, and focus on the preventive care and early detection that truly make a difference. We are grateful to our providers, partners, and community members for making the evening so meaningful.”

As a rural health system, Gunnison Valley Health remains dedicated not only to delivering exceptional care, but also to fostering connection, education, and trust. Events like Ladies Spa Night underscore that mission, offering women a space to recharge while supporting their long-term wellbeing.
