Meet Dr. Gloria Beim, Orthopedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Gloria Beim is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who has served on medical teams for multiple Olympic and Paralympic Olympics and has spent more than a decade working with elite athletes. This winter, she will be working her ninth major international Games. But what matters most to Dr. Beim is how that experience translates into better care for patients right here at home.

Bringing Global Experience Back to Local Patients

Through her work at the Games and traveling internationally with national teams, Dr. Beim regularly collaborates with physicians from around the world and learns new techniques and approaches to diagnosing and treating injuries.

“One of the biggest contributions that the Games provided my practice was the use of diagnostic ultrasound,” she explains. “It really changed a large part of my practice and has benefited countless patients in their diagnostics and treatment.”

Even with her international career, Dr. Beim says the people of the Gunnison Valley are what inspire her most.

She describes patients here as uniquely motivated, driven by a love of the outdoors and an active lifestyle. “The desire to work hard in therapy after injury or surgery here is unmatched to any other city I’ve worked in,” she shares. “I rarely have to worry about my patients not working hard for a great recovery.”

The Most Rewarding Part of the Job

For Dr. Beim, nothing compares to seeing patients regain their independence and return to the activities they love.

“My favorite encounters are on the chairlift when I see patients fully recovered,” she says. “I love when they let me take a run with them. It brings me such joy.”

She often runs into former patients throughout the community, back at work, back on the slopes, or back to enjoying everyday lives, these are reminders of why she chose to practice in the valley she loves.
