Meet Dr. Jason Hogan and Learn How to Keep Safe This Winter

The Mountain Clinic provides critical medical services on the slope, regardless of whether you are skiing, snowboarding, biking, or hiking. Accidents can happen, and we are here for you with both urgent and emergency care. Open daily for the 2026 winter season from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. until April 5, the clinic welcomes walk-in patients and is conveniently located at 12 Snowmass Road, Axtel 100, in Mt. Crested Butte.

Behind the on-mountain care team is Dr. Jason Hogan, Emergency Medicine Physician and Medical Director of the Mountain Clinic, who helps ensure patients receive fast, expert treatment in this unique environment. We sat down with Dr. Hogan to learn more about the care they provide and to gather some winter safety tips for the season.

What makes the Mountain Clinic unique?

The Mountain Clinic is positioned right at the base of the resort, allowing rapid evaluation and treatment of ski and snowboard related injuries, altitude illness, and winter medical concerns. Our care is led by emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who undergo continued training on both medical and trauma-related concerns we often encounter at the clinic. Our team is well-integrated with our experienced ski patrol partners who understand mountain medicine and the demands of high-altitude recreation.

What’s the best part of working at the Mountain Clinic?

Caring for this community, both locals and visitors alike, in an environment we love is incredibly rewarding. It’s a privilege to help people enjoy the mountain and surrounding environment, while getting them back to what they came here to do. Equally rewarding is working alongside a talented, dedicated group of healthcare providers who work hard and adventure hard out here, making the clinic a truly special place to practice medicine.

What advice would you give locals and visitors to help them prevent injury this winter?

Start each day well-hydrated, warm up before hitting the slopes, and pace yourself, especially early in the season or at altitude. Wearing a helmet, listening to your body, and calling it a day before fatigue sets in can go a long way in preventing injuries.
