Meet Dr. Poulos: Bringing Dermatology Close to Home

Gunnison Valley Health is pleased have Dr. Nickolas Poulos, a board-certified dermatologist seeing patients in Gunnison and Crested Butte. With broad training in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Poulos is expanding access to specialized skin care for our community.

Why local dermatology care matters

Skin conditions are common and often very manageable when treated early. According to Dr. Poulos, access to care plays a major role in outcomes.

“When services are not available locally, people tend to put off treatment of their skin conditions,” he said. “In the case of melanoma, this could be deadly.”

By offering dermatology services close to home, Gunnison Valley Health aims to reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment and make it easier for patients to prioritize their health.

Comprehensive services for patients of all ages

Dr. Poulos treats a wide range of conditions, from common concerns like eczema and acne to complex diseases such as cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. He is also board certified in micrographic dermatologic surgery, commonly known as Mohs surgery, a specialized technique for removing skin cancer.

In addition to medical and surgical care, he provides cosmetic services, including neuromodulators such as Botox, dermal fillers and laser and energy-based treatments.

Inspired by family and community

Dr. Poulos was introduced to dermatology early in life through his father, a dermatopathologist. He grew up in a small town in South Florida and says the Gunnison Valley’s close-knit feel and rural setting made the move a natural fit.

“My favorite part of working in the Valley is having so many smart colleagues to discuss cases and collaborate with,” he said.
