Gunnison Valley Health Supports Breast Imaging for the Community with Top Notch Physicians

Gunnison Valley Health Diagnostic Radiologist and Breast Imaging Specialist, Dr. Karien Campbell, M.D. stepped down from her role with the health system on July 7 to return to practice in Albuquerque. Dr. Campbell has been an integral part of the health system’s partnership with Cattlemen’s Days Tough Enough to Wear Pink and has helped to build a foundation for superior breast imaging services.

Gunnison Valley Health CEO Rob Santilli expressed his gratitude for Dr. Campbell’s excellent work in the Gunnison Valley.

“Dr. Campbell has been an incredible asset to the health system and residents of the Gunnison Valley,” Santilli said. “Her caring, professionalism and skill have helped us to build the strong mammography program we have today. I want to thank her for taking Gunnison Valley Health to a level of excellence we will enjoy long into the future. I wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors.”

Gunnison Valley Health’s Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging, Dr. Karl Hasselbach, M.D. joined Gunnison Valley Health in March of 2021 and brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience and resources that will be a tremendous benefit for the community. He has the full support of Radiology Imaging Associates, his specialty group out of Denver, now over 100 radiologists strong.

Dr. Hasselbach is a board certified physician who attended Medical School at the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed a fellowship in Breast Imaging at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Hasselbach has spent time working at high volume breast centers in Austin and Denver which saw an average interpretation of eight times the annual volume of the Gunnison Valley.

“Having a physician of Dr. Hasselbach’s skill is a huge win for our community,” Santilli said. “With the generous support of Cattlemen’s Days Tough Enough to Wear Pink, we have built an exceptional breast imaging service. Dr. Hasselbach brings resources and skills to help carry that work forward.”

Dr. Hasselbach is an avid outdoorsman and having the opportunity to do this work in the Gunnison Valley is the best of both worlds.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to support extremely high quality breast imaging services and settle in Crested Butte, one of the most beautiful areas in Colorado,” Hasselbach said. “I look forward to getting to know the people in my new community and am excited to take advantage of the incredible recreational opportunities in the Gunnison Valley.”
