A Quick Guide to Easy Access Blood Testing

Managing your health has never been more straightforward. Gunnison Valley Health's Direct Access Testing program allows community members to order and receive blood work on a walk-in basis, with no physician referral necessary.
Lab Director Tina Wilson explains it simply: "Our goal is to make health testing accessible to everyone in our community, on their schedule and their terms."
What Should You Expect?
Patients begin by checking in at the north entrance of Gunnison Valley Health, where a Patient Access Representative will collect your information and assist you in selecting the appropriate tests. For those who prefer to plan ahead, a complete list of available tests and the necessary order form can be found at gunnisonvalleyhealth.org/lab prior to your visit.
Before You Arrive — A Few Things to Know
Some tests require fasting beforehand, meaning no food or drink except water for 8 to 12 hours prior to your draw. Additionally, patients taking biotin (Vitamin B7) supplements should pause that supplement for 72 hours before testing, as it can interfere with certain results. The full test menu clearly indicates which tests have these requirements, so you can plan your visit accordingly.
Payment Information
Direct Access Testing is an out-of-pocket service, and full payment is expected at the time of your visit. These tests are not billed to insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, though you are welcome to check with your provider regarding potential reimbursement. Pricing is transparent and available upfront at gunnisonvalleyhealth.org/lab.
From there, a licensed phlebotomist will guide you through a quick and comfortable blood draw, typically completed in just a few minutes. Once finished, you are free to return to your day.
Results are delivered securely through MyChart within 7 days of your visit, where they can be reviewed at your convenience and shared directly with your primary care provider or any member of your care team.
Whether you are monitoring an existing condition, staying on top of routine wellness, or simply want a clearer picture of your health, Direct Access Testing is a practical, low-barrier option available to you right here in Gunnison, seven days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., no appointment needed.
