Community Programs

Peer Support Specialists

Gunnison Valley Health (GVH) partners with The Center for Mental Health (CMH) to provide a wide range of mental health services to help care for individuals who need support within the Gunnison Valley. The certified peer support specialists have overcome a mental health condition and mentor individuals who struggle with mental health, psychological trauma or substance abuse.

The Center for Mental Health offers a range of community services including:

  • 24/7 crisis team.
  • Crisis Walk-In Center located in Montrose offers urgent behavioral health care and substance abuse services 24/7 (coming soon).

Independent Mental Health Providers
Gunnison Valley has many local independent mental health providers who provide a range of therapy services within the community. These services include but are not limited to holistic therapy, counseling, marriage and family therapy and psychiatric therapy.

The Center for Mental Health

The Center for Mental Health is dedicated to meeting the behavioral healthcare needs of the Gunnison Valley community with offices located in both Gunnison and Crested Butte. Staffed with certified mental health professionals, The Center for Mental Health provides the following services:

  • Comprehensive mental health assessments.
  • Medication management.
  • Family and individual therapy for all ages.
  • Suicide intervention.
  • Peer support services and support groups.
  • Treatment for grief, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and other life stressors.

Emergency Care

Gunnison Valley Health Emergency Department

Although Gunnison Valley Health is not a behavioral health specialist hospital, we do provide the following services within our
emergency department that connects individuals at risk with the right people and organizations. The services include:

  • 24/7 psychiatric support with Swedish Medical Center.
  • 24/7 mental health evaluations via telehealth.
  • A GVH peer support specialist who mentors patients through a crisis when required.
  • A CMH patient sitter who ensures patient safety while in the emergency department when required.

Primary Care

Gunnison Valley Health Family Medicine Clinic and WCU Campus Health Center

Our primary care clinics have a behavioral health therapist and we pre-screen our clients to help assess their overall health.

  • We identify individuals with social determinants or at risk of mental health conditions.
  • Our providers partner with you to connect you with the right resources.
