Gunnison Valley Health Laboratory has maintained accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), affirming the laboratory’s commitment to accurate testing, patient safety, and high-quality care close to home. The accreditation follows a recent on-site inspection conducted by practicing pathology and laboratory medicine professionals under CAP’s rigorous peer-review process.
The CAP notified Tina Wilson, GVH’s Laboratory Director, of the accreditation decision and congratulated the laboratory for the quality of services provided. Gunnison Valley Health Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide.
“CAP accreditation reflects the discipline, technical excellence, and patient-centered focus of our entire laboratory team,” said Laboratory Director Tina Wilson. “This achievement would not be possible without their consistent commitment to quality, safety, and reliable results for our community.”
Gunnison Valley Health Chief Executive Officer Jason Amrich said the accreditation reinforces GVH’s commitment to excellent care. “The Laboratory’s CAP accreditation helps ensure we continue providing high-quality, reliable care to our community,” Amrich said. “I am grateful for our laboratory technologists, phlebotomists, providers, and the entire team whose ongoing work makes this achievement possible.”
In addition to GVH’s main laboratory, the Mountain Clinic in Crested Butte also received their first ever CAP certification. Although the Mountain Clinic cannot provide walk-in testing for patients, this recognition does allow them to provide quick and accurate testing for urgent and emergent patients they see at the North End of the Valley.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors review laboratory records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety practices, and overall management. These reviews help verify that laboratory operations align with current standards and support reliable patient testing.
The College of American Pathologists supports laboratories through accreditation, proficiency testing, quality improvement tools, and evidence-based guidelines designed to strengthen laboratory medicine and promote confidence in diagnostic results.
Congratulations to the GVH laboratory medicine team as well as the Mountain Clinic team for this significant ongoing accomplishment and for advancing Gunnison Valley Health’s commitment to high-quality patient care close to home.
