The vestibular system, housed in the inner ear, is responsible for giving
the brain information about motion, head position and spatial orientation.
This system plays a major role in our ability to maintain our balance,
stabilize your gaze and keep our postural stability. When this system
is not working well, it can have a serious impact on function and quality
of life. Vestibular dysfunction occurs for a number of reasons –
age, trauma and viral infections to name a few. Our talented physical
therapists have experienced and specialized training to help get you back
on your feet.
We offer:
Thorough vestibular examination including the use of our infrared video goggles
Infrared Video Goggles are specialized equipment that can assist your physical
therapist in correctly diagnosing and treating your vertigo, or helping
identify the origin of your dizziness. The goggles illuminate the eyes
and record eye movements on the computer screen, which greatly helps to
improve accuracy in treatment, as these small movements are often difficult
to see with the naked eye.
Patient education regarding vestibular system anatomy and function and
goals of treatment
Balance training, gaze stabilization exercises and postural stability training
Fall prevention education
Targeted treatment to guide a safe return to previously enjoyed activities
