Gunnison Valley Health is proud to offer CPR & First Aid Training to our community in conjunction with the American Heart Association (AHA).

The AHA offers two different formats for obtaining a certification. Both formats include the same learning objectives and result in the same course completion card.

Blended Learning

Blended Learning is the most popular option the AHA offers at Gunnison Valley Health. Blended Learning offers the convenience and flexibility of taking the online portion of the course at your own pace, location and schedule. The online course portion is sold separately through the AHA website. Prices vary per course.

After completing the online portion, one must pass the hands-on session with an AHA instructor. You can sign up with the GVH to attend an instructor-led, hands-on session focuses on meaningful coaching, skills practice, and skills testing. The hands-on session is $40 and includes the cost for your course completion card.

Instructor-Led Classroom

Instructor-Led classes are a great option for groups who prefer to spend the day in a classroom setting. An instructor will lead the group in watching the online videos while providing group interactions and coaching. Classroom courses may be conducted onsite at your company's location or at Gunnison Valley Health.

Which AHA Is Best For Me?

Heartsaver Courses

The AHA's Heartsaver courses are ideal for anyone with little or no medical training who needs first aid and or CPR training and a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other regulatory or licensing requirements. Heartsaver courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared to act in an emergency. These course include CPR and AED training, First Aid, or a combined First Aid/CPR and AED training.

  • Heartsaver Total - This comprehensive curriculum is designed to meet licensing requirements for OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

  • Heartsaver - This shortened and targeted version of the course focuses on core curriculum and skills to put students on a fast track to refresh their skills. It is designed to be flexible for students who need to review only specific topics to meet course requirements to obtain a course completion card. However, it is not regulatory or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant.

If students are not familiar with their organization’s requirements, they should select the Heartsaver Total course path.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

BLS is intended for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. Updated to reflect new science as it emerges, this course teaches the concepts of high-quality CPR, improvement of chest compression fraction and high-performing team dynamics.

GVH offers this course as an instructor-led or hands-on session of the blended learning course.
