Pediatrician to join Gunnison Valley Health

Gunnison Valley Health would like to welcome Pediatrician, Charlie Hastings, D.O., who will join the team of primary care providers at the Family Medicine Clinic starting September 1.

Gunnison Valley Health’s Chief of Staff and Family Medicine Clinic Internist, Kenneth Anderson D.O., said the addition of a full-time Pediatrician to the medical team provides a wide range of specialized care options to meet the needs of the community.

“Dr. Hastings’ area of expertise is to help support children from birth through adolescence with their health and development,” Anderson said. “He also has an active interest in children’s sports, especially concussion management and safe return to play practices.”

Hastings is a board certified physician who joins us from Missoula, Montana and has been practicing general pediatrics for six years. Hastings completed his bachelor’s degree at Baylor University in Texas, Masters of Public Health at Loma Linda University in California and Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.

Hastings is no stranger to the Gunnison Valley, having spent a lot of time in Colorado and regularly visiting his family’s property just outside of Gunnison.

“Our family loves everything outdoors: mountain biking, skiing, hiking, backpacking, camping, climbing, fishing,” Hastings said. “I am excited for my kids to have the opportunity to grow up in such a special place,” he said.

“Rural mountain communities, like Gunnison, offer particular experiences and opportunities that foster resilience, perseverance, and relationship-building skills, and I believe these are extremely important strengths that our children need throughout their lives. I hope to partner with other providers and resources within the community to support families in raising healthy kids,” he said.

Hastings added, “I am thrilled to be able to practice medicine in a small community where I will be able to interact with my patients and their families beyond the clinic.”

Gunnison Valley Health’s CEO, Rob Santilli, confirmed that adding a Pediatrician to Gunnison Valley Health’s team of exceptional providers delivers more choices to our community when it comes to the level of care they require.

“For a small rural healthcare system, we are fortunate to be in a position where we can add new services and attract a higher level of expertise to deliver the best care to our community,” Santilli said.
