Breast Surgical Care in Gunnison Valley
Gunnison Valley Health is expanding access to specialized breast care with the launch of a new Breast Surgery Program, led by board-certified general surgeon Dr. Brooke Bredbeck.
Dr. Bredbeck brings extensive experience in breast surgery and breast cancer care to the Gunnison Valley. Her goal is to provide high-quality, timely, compassionate surgical care close to home—so patients can receive the care they need without having to leave the valley whenever possible.
Comprehensive Care for Breast Conditions
The new Breast Surgery Program provides surgical services for a range of breast conditions, including:
- Breast cancer
- Benign breast disease
- Breast lumps or abnormalities
- Conditions associated with high-risk genetic mutations
- Risk-reducing surgery for individuals with certain high-risk genetic mutations
Patients do not need to have a formal diagnosis to seek care for a breast concern.

Experienced Breast Surgical Care
Dr. Bredbeck's dedication to breast surgery began during her residency training at the University of Michigan, where she pursued a two-year, National Cancer Institute-funded research fellowship focused on breast cancer care delivery.
After completing her training, Dr. Bredbeck managed a high volume of breast surgery cases and led breast cancer quality improvement initiatives at her institution.
She performs both breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy and takes an oncoplastic approach when appropriate, with a focus on achieving better cosmetic results following surgery.
Dr. Bredbeck has also established collaborative relationships with nearby plastic surgeons so patients in the valley have access to breast reconstruction options, including tissue-based reconstruction.
Compassionate Care, Close to Home
A breast cancer diagnosis can be difficult. Having specialized surgical
care available closer to home can help patients remain connected to their
families, support systems, and community throughout their care.
“I’m most excited about giving high quality and time sensitive care here in the Gunnison Valley. I don’t want our community to worry about where they receive care. While a cancer diagnosis is never easy, knowing that compassionate, expert care is available locally can make a difficult situation more manageable.”
