The gold standard in breast care, right here in the Gunnison Valley.

At Gunnison Valley Health we are committed to providing a comprehensive set of breast screening services. From 3D Tomosynthesis Mammography to Automated Breast Ultrasounds to breast MRIs, we offer a complete range of breast imaging services.

3D Tomosynthesis Mammography

Mammography is an X-ray test of the breasts (mammary glands) used to screen for breast problems. A mammogram is conducted to help screen for or to diagnose breast cancer. Many small tumors can be seen on a mammogram before they can be felt by a woman or her health care professional.

3D Tomosynthesis is the latest in breast imaging technology. By taking multiple images of breast tissue to recreate a 3D picture, tumors and cancer clusters can be more readily identified, especially in dense breast tissue.

Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS)

ABUS screenings use sound waves to create 3D pictures of the breast tissue. This allows radiologists to look through hundreds of breast tissue image "slices", looking at layers of dense tissue to find breast cancers which may have been missed on a mammogram. This is different than routine ultrasound of the breasts since the images from ABUS allow physicians to review volumes of data which may result in the ability to detect more breast cancers.

Breast MRI

Breast MRI’s (magnetic resonance imaging) uses radio waves and strong magnets to make detailed pictures inside of the breast as well as the chest wall. MRI is not limited by breast density in the same manner as Mammography.

Breast Biopsy

If your mammogram is abnormal or anomalies are identified, the next step is to undertake a breast biopsy. Needing a breast biopsy doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer. Most biopsy results are not cancer, but this procedure is the only way to find out for sure.
