Cancer Screening Access Fund

FAQs

What Is the Cancer Screening Fund?

The Cancer Screening Access Fund is available to help un-insured and under-insured Gunnison County residents cover the cost of certain cancer screenings. This includes prostate, lung, colon, and cervical cancer screening.

The fund was developed through a partnership between Gunnison Tough, Living Journeys, and the Gunnison Valley Health Foundation, and can cover up to $5,000 per approved patient.

How Do I Apply?

To get started, you will need to complete a short online application. It's available in both English and Spanish at www.gunnisonvalleyhealth.org/fund."

Do I Need a Primary Care Provider (PCP)

Yes, you'll need to be established with a Primary Care Provider (PCP), as they will be the one to order your screening.

If you need to get set up with a PCP, you can call the Family Medicine Clinic at (970) 642-8413 and they will assist you.

Does My Primary Care Provider Have to be a GVH Provider?

Your PCP does not need to be a GVH provider; however, please know that any screening or diagnostic work ordered under this fund will need to be completed through Gunnison Valley Health.

How Does Billing Work?

If you have insurance, it will be billed first. The Cancer Screening Fund would then act as secondary coverage for any remaining balance, up to $5,000

If you don't have insurance, the fund can cover the approved services up to $5,000 for eligible patients.

All of this is handled through the application and our billing process, so you don't need to worry about coordinating that yourself.

How Do I Qualify for the Fund?

To be eligible, you'll need to be a Gunnison County resident and have an established Primary Care Provider (their PCP does not need to be affiliated with GVH or practice in Gunnison County). The online application will help determine your eligibility from there. If you are approved, you will need to get an Order for the screening test from your PCP.

Please keep in mind that approval must come through before any testing can be ordered, so we'd recommend applying as soon as possible.
