Our Behavioral Health Team

KimberlyKimberly, LPC, CAC III, ACS

Director of Behavior Health

Kimberly joined Gunnison Valley Health as the Director of Behavior Health in 2021. Previously, Kimberly served as the Regional Director for The Center for Mental Health in Gunnison for over 4 years. Kimberly has a master’s in art therapy from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s in fine art photography from West Georgia College. She has been a licensed professional counselor since May 2002 and a certified addiction counselor since October 2007. When away from work, Kimberly enjoys baking, yoga, photography and walks.

CariCari, LPC

Licensed Behavior Health Clinician

Cari joined Gunnison Valley Health in 2021 as a behavioral health clinician. Cari is a Licensed Professional Counselor and board-certified National Certified Counselor. She has experience in areas of mental health and addictions including child protection, eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD and family conflict/relationships. Cari earned her master’s in clinical counseling from Colorado Christian University and is passionate about working with families in particular. Cari and her husband Tim have lived in Crested Butte since 2019 and enjoy skiing, running and hiking.

ShelbyShelby, MSW, SWC

Behavior Health Clinician

Shelby joined Gunnison Valley Health as a behavioral health clinician in 2021. Shelby's area of focus is outpatient, substance use treatment and jail-based behavioral health services. Shelby earned her bachelor’s in psychology from Western Colorado University in 2014. She received her master’s in social work in 2020 from Metropolitan State University of Denver. When she isn’t at work, Shelby enjoys fly fishing, rafting, horseback riding, hiking, reading and doing puzzles.

JenniferJennifer, PMHNP

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Jennifer joined as our psychiatric nurse practitioner in 2021. She holds a master’s degree in nursing and received her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Although Jennifer’s practice is based in medication, she also believes self-care (including balanced nutrition, exercise, and meaningful connections) is fundamental to psychiatric recovery. When she isn’t working, Jennifer enjoys hiking and having friends and family over for dinner.

BryanBryan, LPCC

Mobile Crisis Clinician

Bryan joined Gunnison Valley Health as a mobile crisis clinician in 2021. Prior to this, Bryan worked as a school counselor and as an art teacher. Bryan earned his master’s in school counseling from Walden University and is a licensed professional clinical counselor. When he isn’t working, Bryan likes to adventure in the mountains with his family and friends.

MariahMariah, MA Candidate

Mobile Crisis Clinician

Mariah joined Gunnison Valley Health as a mobile crisis clinician in 2021. Mariah grew up in Gunnison and, after some time away, has lived in the Valley since 2015. She earned her bachelor’s from University of Nevada, Las Vegas and is currently working towards a master’s in clinical mental health counseling. Prior to joining our team, Mariah worked as an occupational therapy assistant with preschool and elementary-aged children with developmental disabilities. Mariah enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her puppies.

ScottScott, MA

Mobile Crisis Clinician

Scott has been a mobile crisis clinician with Gunnison Valley Health since 2021. He attended Western Colorado University for undergrad and earned his master’s in health promotion from the University of Alabama. Scott believes in the power of a growth mindset after his personal experience of working through the challenges of ADHD. Scott is committed to providing individualized care to meet each person’s unique needs. Outside of work, Scott enjoys outdoor activities and traveling with his wife and dog.


Peer Support Specialist

Barbara joined Gunnison Valley Health as a peer support specialist in 2020. Barbara loves connecting with people, and especially using her experience to help people work through challenges. She is passionate about letting everyone know that “recovery is possible no matter where you are in life.” Barbara moved to the Gunnison Valley in 2018. When she isn’t at work, Barbara loves to paddle board, shop and spend time with family.


Peer Support Specialist

Helena joined Gunnison Valley Health as a peer support specialist in 2021. Helena has a bachelor’s in communications and a master’s in organizational management. When she isn’t working in the community, Helena enjoys gaming and camping, especially with her husband of 20 years and two dogs.

Betty SueBetty Sue, LCSW

School Based Clinician

Betty Sue joined us in 2021 as a School Based Clinician serving students 6th to 12th grade at Crested Butte Community School. She hold a bachelor's and master's degree in social work and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2019. Betty Sue comes from the Gunnison County Juvenile Services and GCSAPP, where she worked toward substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion in our community. Outside of work, Betty Sue enjoys rafting, biking, skiing, frisbee, hockey and drinking coffee.

EvangelynEvangelyn, LCSW

School Based Clinician

Evangelyn joined us in 2021 as a School Based Clinician serving students PreK to 5th grade at Lake Community School and Gunnison Elementary School. She received her master’s degree in social work from Colorado State University in 2013 and has been working as a therapist since. Evangelyn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Trauma Specialist and has been certified in Art and Play Therapy focused on treatment for children and adolescents. When Evangelyn is not working, she’s with her husband and three children adventuring outdoors.
